Native on Mac

A desktop-class accounting application for Mac — fast, offline-capable, and paired with a companion app for iPhone and iPad.

Works Offline

Your books are stored on your Mac, and day-to-day accounting needs no internet connection. iCloud sync is optional on the Mac — but the iPhone and iPad companion receives your books through it, so it needs sync switched on.

Privacy by Design

No Addsworth account or password is required. Primary financial data stays on your Mac and, when you enable sync, in your iCloud account.

Built for the Long Term

Buy it once and it stays bought. Every future version of Core is yours, along with the fixes and compatibility work that keep it current on macOS. Supported on the current macOS and the one before it.

Companion on iPhone and iPad

Capture draft journals where the work happens, browse the full ledger, and edit routine data on an iPad. Posting stays on your Mac — the FAQ sets out what each device does.

iPad

See your financial position away from the desk. Liquidity, obligations and net worth stay in step with your Mac.
Capture a draft journal where the work happens, with sales tax codes attached — then post it on your Mac.

Follow what moved through a bank account. Money in, money out and a running balance, with the opening and closing figures for the period.

Pricing

Both apps are free to download. The Mac app unlocks with a single purchase; the iPhone and iPad companion is a monthly subscription. Prices in Canadian dollars.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a GIFI code?

The General Index of Financial Information (GIFI) is a CRA code set used to report financial statement data on Canadian tax returns. Every line on your Balance Sheet and Income Statement maps to a GIFI code. Addsworth includes all 769 CRA GIFI codes.

What does it cost, and can I try it first?

Addsworth Accounting is a free download, and every feature works against the built-in sample company — no time limit and nothing held back. A single $499 CAD purchase unlocks companies of your own. Sample data exists for evaluation and cannot be filed with the CRA.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Day-to-day accounting works entirely offline. An internet connection is needed only for iCloud sync and Apple services such as the App Store.

Can I manage multiple companies?

Yes. One unlock covers every company you keep, each with its own chart of accounts, journals, fiscal periods, and tax settings. The licence is held by you rather than by any one company, so a bookkeeper carrying a full client list buys once.

What platforms are supported?

Addsworth Accounting runs on Mac. Addsworth Companion runs on iPhone and iPad, and is a separate subscription.

Do I need a Mac to use the iPhone or iPad app?

Yes. Addsworth Companion works on books created on your Mac — it cannot create companies of its own. It receives your data through iCloud, so sync must be switched on in Addsworth Accounting. Without a Mac and iCloud, the companion has nothing to show you.

What can I actually do on an iPhone or iPad?

More than read. Both devices capture draft journals — create, edit, save, copy and delete — so you can record the work at the client's office or the supplier's counter rather than carry it home in your head. An iPad goes further and edits routine data: bank accounts, the chart of accounts, bank reconciliation, generating reports, and closing a posting period. An iPhone browses the whole ledger and runs the dashboard. What neither device does is post. Posting and reversal, creating a company, opening balances, fiscal periods, tax configuration, imports, GIFI code assignment, and anything else that changes a figure you report to the CRA all stay on the Mac.

Is my financial data secure?

Your data is stored locally on your device and, optionally, in your private iCloud account. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Is Addsworth available yet?

Addsworth Accounting is in final development. This page will carry the App Store link once it is live.

What's the difference between the editions?

Addsworth Accounting ships the Core edition: general ledger accounting, GL-level customer and vendor balance tracking, bank reconciliation, financial reports, GST/HST working copies, printable and exportable T2 Schedule 100/125 GIFI summaries, and T2125 support. Business covers receivables and payables as full subledgers — invoicing, bills, payment application and statements — with fixed assets and recurring journals. Tax covers corporation and partnership return preparation on the same ledger, with expanded T2 schedules, filing-status tracking, and electronic filing to the CRA. Returns can be printed or exported for filing by other means in any edition.
